Profile

Sabina completed her studies in Veterinary Medicine in Germany at the Justus-Liebig University of Giessen. Shortly after finishing her degree she started her doctoral studies researching an Orthoreovirus isolate of Boa constrictor. Sabina spent about a year working as an ecological tour guide in a variety of southern African countries. This experience expanded and deepened Sabina's knowledge and passion for wildlife conservation. Sabina lectures in animal health and conservation medicine and is programme Leader of the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
Sabina's current research focuses on the disease ecology of speckled skinks (Oligosoma infrapunctatum) on Mokoia Island, Lake Rotorua. Sabina is passionate about introducing her students to in-situ animal health screening and wildlife management of New Zealand herpefauna. Recently, Sabina has designed and developed the Unitec Simulated Veterinary Clinic, which won The NAEAC Three Rs Award in recognition of an outstanding contribution to humane science in New Zealand and the practice of the Three Rs by the New Zealand Veterinary Association.
