Professional memberships

Alan's main professional experience has been in the health industry. He joined Unitec in 2002 as a part-time lecturer in management courses. To date Alan has taught a variety of management courses that have included: management in business, entrepreneurial business, personal effectiveness (at Certificate level); organisation and management, human resource management, leadership (at Diploma level); and human resource strategy (Bachelors level).

Alan is completing a Masters of Management (majoring in International Business).

Areas of interest: Alan's research interests include the level of competencies in the New Zealand Not-for-Profit Industry sector, organisational change and its implications on staff and culture, business and sustainability, and International Human Resource management.

Profile

Alan Lockyer is a full-time lecturer in the Department of Management and Marketing, Unitec. Alan specialises in human resource management, leadership, organisation and management, international business, and sustainability. Alan's research interests include organisational restructuring and its consequences, international human resource management, the third sector sustainability issues, and international business issues.

He has a Masters Degree in Management from Massey University, Auckland. This empirical research is based on a study of MNCs expatriate manager selection criteria. He also has a Bachelor of Business Degree with a double major in human resource management and marketing.

Before becoming an academic Alan has worked in the health industry for over 20 years in the medical laboratory field. He also has proficiency qualifications in biochemistry and microbiology, and a specialist level qualification in microbiology.

Alan is married and has one daughter.

Research Interests

International business issues, business sustainability in for-profit and not-for-profit (economic, social, environmental) organisations, ethics and social responsibility, organisational downsizing, organisational change/restructuring.

Areas of Research

Human resource issues involving expatriation, business sustainability issues, international business issues; third sector sustainability issues.
