Below is a list of some of the most common questions we get from parents and whānau - just click on the question you're interested in to see the answer. If the question you would like to ask is not here or if you would like to have a discussion with us about study options for your child, please email upc@unitec.ac.nz and our friendly team will assist you.

How do I arrange a visit to campus for me and my child?

Please liaise directly with one of the Secondary School and Community Liaison Team and we can arrange for your and your child to visit our campus. We also have our Unitec Open Day and a range of various Secondary School Holiday Workshops on offer too. This can be a great way to visit many areas at once, or for your child to find out more about a particular area of study. We are happy to discuss things together with you.

How does my child get a student loan and/or student allowance?

Student loans and student allowances are available from Studylink. Please let us know if you are experiencing any difficulty with making an application and we will try and help out, either ourselves or with our Student Support Advisors on campus that can assist also.

Is there support available on campus for my child?

Unitec provides a huge range of support for our students, in fact it's so comprehensive that you're best to check out this link here to see them all. For anything else at all then just let us know. We're keen to help and support where we can.

What transport options are available for my child

Unitec has two campuses in Mt Albert and Waitākere with a shuttle bus that travels between the two for free (students just need to show their student ID). Our Mt Albert campus is also just by the train station, just 10 minutes walking distance away. Both campuses also have bus links that stop in front of the institute. We have student parking on site. Please see campus maps for more information. To see all our information about transport options, please see out getting to Unitec page.

What accommodation is available for my child?

There are many different Accommodation options available to Unitec students, including flatting, renting, the Student Residential Village and temporary accommodation.

What experiences do you offer to help my child decide if Unitec is the right place to study and if the program is the right fit?

Our Secondary School and Community team are here to support and guide you and your child in deciding on a programme. You can schedule an appointment with any of our liaisons. We also offer a range of free school holiday workshops available for 15 - 19-year olds. These workshops will give students a taste of what they will learn in class, they will meet our lecturers and see the campus. You can book your place at a school holiday workshop now.

What if we get stuck with the application and how would we know what happens next?

Our Secondary School and Community team can guide you through the application process. If you have questions, you are welcome to schedule an appointment with any of our liaisons now. We can meet you and your child at school, at Unitec or even via zoom to guide you through the process.
