Language Studies

The Language Studies Practice Pathways Group offers a variety of language courses to help students improve their English skills or to train people how to teach a language. We also offer a variety of language courses including Chinese (Mandarin), French, Japanese, Spanish and Te Reo Māori, as well as liaison interpreting if you want to make a career out of interpreting.

Practice Pathway overview

It’s a diverse learning environment with students from many different backgrounds and cultures. There are shared lunches, welcome ceremonies for new students, and student advisers who look after our international, refugee and permanent resident students.

We encourage students to practise what they learn in our language labs and Language Learning Centre. Some of our English language programmes include work experience, and our language teacher programmes include teaching practice and classroom observation.

The Language Studies Practice Pathways Group is also home to our award-winning IELTS Test Centre, where English language students can take the IELTS test right here on campus.
