Eligibility
You must be a:
- Bachelor of Nursing student who has successfully completed year two of your programme;
- Current NZNO financial member with priority given to those who have not received a grant in the previous two years. Know someone who would like to apply but isn’t a current member? Selection
Applicants must demonstrate:
- academic achievement
- contribution to Nursing (for example support offered to fellow students, going the extra mile for patients)
- contribution to the community (for example invovlement in activities outside of nursing - may include family commitments, volunteerism, cultural commitments)
- inclusion of up to two referees who will write a letter of support for the applicant and be available for contact via phone.

Background
Waitematā District Health Board has places available on our Health Scholarship Programme. If you are due to complete your study towards becoming a health professional within the next 12-18 months please consider joining us at Waitematā District Heath Board, on the Health Scholarship Programme.
The Programme supports Māori and Pacific students from the Waitematā region (North Shore City, Waitakere City and Rodney District) to undertake health-specific tertiary study with an accredited New Zealand education provider. In return for support with your tuition fees, networking opportunities and an offer of employment upon successful completion of your training. We ask that our scholarship recipients agree to work with us for a minimum of 2 years’ post-graduation.
Scholarships are provided to help us better reflect the population we serve and as such, are only available to residents from Māori and/or indigenous Pacific ethnic backgrounds.
Eligibility Criteria
The key eligibility criteria for scholarship applications are:
- New Zealand citizenship and/or permanent residency
• Māori or Pacific ethnicity
• A completed online application before the closing date
• Financial need
• Community involvement
• Demonstrated understanding of health inequalities and why we need to grow our Māori and Pacific workforces.
• A commitment to working for Waitematā DHB upon graduation
