Dogs head to maths class

Led by Senior Lecturer Dr Kristie Cameron, the researchers are investigating if dogs can be taught to count by understanding the differences in quantities. The project was started by BASCI graduate Sophie Nannestad in 2021, and will be continued by another graduate Kayla Briden in 2022 after the project won a contestable Early Career Research grant.

Unitec lecturer Robyn Gandell receives award for mathematics paper

The award is given for outstanding contributions to the ERME conferences by a committee of experts and Robyn’s was one of three papers chosen for an award from an international field of 64 researchers.

Robyn has a background in dance as well as mathematics, and is currently studying towards her Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Auckland.

Unitec student Nicola Fraser highly commended in Eden Arts Initiative

Nicola drew on her family history with deep roots in west Auckland and across the oceans to Lebanon.

Nicola’s great-great grandparents, Najibie Tanyaus Ataya and Assid Abraham Corban immigrated to New Zealand in 1892 from Mount Lebanon, a small village near Beirut, and established a vineyard in West Auckland, which grew into the well-known Corban’s wine estate.

MIT and Unitec champion Te Tiriti based co-leadership in tertiary sector

Ikin will co-lead both institutes alongside Chief Executive Gus Gilmore and brings to the role more than 20 years’ senior leadership experience in Māori advancement coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the vocational and tertiary education sector.
