Costume Props & Breakdown Workshop (PASA6755)

To introduce students to a range of specialist techniques and technologies associated with the creation of costume props. The course focuses on the development of specialist skills through a range of hands-on practical workshops.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Topics include: 

Advanced principles of accessories construction Assessing the process for selection of appropriate materials and techniques Behavioural properties of paints, dyes and pigments, Colour, colour mixing and colour matching, brush &
application effects Body shaping structures and support mechanisms Conceptualising from an existing source
Construction using mixed media techniques Realising production elements using own or designer generated material and personal research
Safety when handling materials, technologies and substances, Personal approaches to health and safety in the workplace Textile technology
The creation, adaptation and acquisition of accessories The role of the costume department in maintaining continuity of design and style Theories of self management and team leadership Working collaboratively in teams
Learning and teaching approaches
Topics may be taught in an integrated manner in both practical/workshop/lab and lecture/seminar/tutorial modes
Activities include self-directed learning, individual and class exercises, field trips, work in groups, guest lectures and online discussion
Feedback is sought throughout the course using a range of assessment tools including
Group reflection and individual survey
