Learn to speak Gagana Samoa (the Samoan language) and develop your understanding of Samoan culture.
This qualification is for anyone who works with Pacific nations people and wants to improve their communication skills.
If you're of Samoan descent raised in New Zealand, this is a chance to reconnect to your language and culture.
You will learn skills in:
- Speaking.
- Listening.
- Reading and writing.
- Understanding cultural practices.
By the end of the programme, you will have an expanded Samoan vocabulary and be able to engage in basic communication with a Samoan language speaker in a community or workplace setting. The programme is made up of four 15-credit courses:
- My surroundings.
- My family.
- My Community.
- Cultural Practices.
Details
Start Month: This course runs in July.
Duration: Part-time for one year consisting of 4 blocks of 8 weeks, with two sessions per week.
Sessions run between 5:30 - 8:30 on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, with one in-class session and one online.
There are also two additional Saturday classes in each block which run from 9:00 - 2:00 pm.
