A house without plumbing? Probably not the kind of house you’d want to live in. Showers, sinks, hot water cylinders, washing machines… – today’s houses need plenty of plumbing and gasfitting work. Which means lots of work for plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers. 

Study at the Department of Plumbing and Gasfitting and it’s almost like working on actual plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying jobs. You’ll complete a range of tasks at our Plumbing and Gasfitting Training and Assessment Centre, under the watchful eyes of your lecturers. There’s also our hydraulics lab with a glass piping system to demonstrate the flow of wastewater systems. It’s the only one of its kind in Australasia. We also have specialist gas labs with fully operational commercial and domestic gas appliances, a dedicated drainlaying building, sheetmetal workshop and a fully equipped welding workshop. And then there’s our online learning programme, a world-class learning resource with fun multimedia features. 

Much of our teaching material is donated by the industry. Major plumbing and gasfitting companies also visit our campus to demonstrate the latest products and how to install them. Companies like Marley, Rheem, Rinnai, Methven, Hydroflow and Dux. Or  Buteline, Apex Valves, Aquatherm, RMC and Tyco. 

Our staff are represented on a number of technical and industry committees. Many have owned their own businesses. They regularly advise the industry on technical and legal matters. Sometimes they also provide technical expertise to the courts and the media. They know what they’re talking about. And now they want to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers.
