Programme summary
Want a sneak preview of the world of graphic design and animation? Script/animate 2D narratives, and draw, invent and manipulate imagery through illustration, photography, printmaking, and painting. Work in fully equipped workshops, studios and computer labs, and display your work in student galleries.
Gain insight into the world of graphic design and animation. This programme gives you the opportunity to learn about graphic design and animation in just two years. You’ll be enrolled in the Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts (Graphic Design and Animation), and in your second year can choose to exit with the diploma or go on to study the third year of the Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts. If you decide to study for the Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts (Graphic Design and Animation) later on, you can re-join the third year at any stage.
Highlights
- Emphasis on real design projects: design posters, book covers, an animation, a publication. You’ll also script and animate in 2D and experience interactive narrative, utilising drawing. You learn to manipulate imagery using a range of techniques like illustration, photography, printmaking and painting.
- Access to well-equipped etching/intaglio/screen printmaking workshops and photographic studios.
- Computer suites that are fitted out with iMacs, scanners and colour printers.
- A fully stocked design library, a reading room and great cafés on site.
- Lecturers who are current practitioners and specialists in their fields of design, such as interactive and web design, animation and moving image design, print design, art direction, typography, illustration and publication design.
- Regular visits from guest speakers.
Portfolio requirements
All applicants must submit with their application a portfolio of work that demonstrates their ability within their chosen major or within a variety of art, design or related media.
The portfolio should comprise 15-20 reproductions of their recent best work and may be submitted as colour photographs, digital files on CD or DVD (.jpegs must not be larger than one meg) or colour laser prints (no larger than A4). Applicants may be invited to an interview at the next stage of the selection process.
