Aim: 
To enable students to develop an understanding of computing principles and their use in engineering practice.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) programme to enrol in this course.
Topics include: 

1. Engineering maths and analysis package, command window usage, script files, arrays, plotting, matrix operations
2. Principles of computer program design and data structures
3. Computer programs in general
4. Methods, data types, assignments, parameters, loops and iteration, conditional statements
5. Spreadsheets for engineering calculations
6. Databases for engineering calculations, analysis and data storage and retrieval
7. Other discipline specific packages for analysis and calculations
