Aim: 
Module 1: Environment and Building -To explore the interaction of buildings with the natural environment. Module 2: Architectural Science - To develop a sound understanding of the acoustic, thermal and lighting factors that affect building performance and occupant health and comfort in the built environment.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Architectural Studies programme to enrol in this course. Pre-requisite: ARCH6411.
Topics include: 

Module 1 Climate and global warming, energy issues and alternatives, urban environmental sustainability, urban transport & energy issues, urban housing issues, environmental assessment techniques, water conservation processes,
passive solar design principles, design for the sun applications, cultural sustainability, Resource Management Act
outline, design applications, organisations, legislation protocols, housing design case studies, alternative construction systems,
waste management & recycling principles, applications and case studies, conservation principles, sustainable materials review, site operation techniques
Module 2 Building thermal performance and passive control, design for natural and artificial lighting, architectural acoustics and noise control
