Asylum design research journal is produced by Unitec’s School of Architecture and published annually by ePress, Unitec’s publishing platform. Now well into its third decade, and a highlight of the academic year, Asylum was named for the former hospital building that originally housed the School. The 2025 edition continues to showcase student work and the school’s many events and community initiatives, but also has a special feature – Mana Wāhine – that puts the women of Unitec’s School of Architecture centre-stage. Offering broad opportunities for past and present student and staff research, Asylum continues to be published as both a printed and online resource. The editorial team is committed to a scholarly open-access publishing model for the journal so Asylum reaches a diverse audience.
