About The ePress

Unitec’s ePress aims to explore and enable new modes of scholarly publishing. Unitec’s ePress, hosted by the Research Office, produces peer-reviewed works enabling Unitec ePress authors to reach a wider audience.

Types of ePublications promoted:

  • eBooks
  • Discussion Papers and Occasional Paper Series
  • Conference Proceedings
  • Reports
  • Monographs

Rationale for the Unitec ePress

  • To recognise the need to find an effective mechanism for disseminating high quality Unitec scholarship
  • To enable dissemination of knowledge produced by Unitec members of staff in ways that encourage debate and dialogue both internal and external to the Institution and increase the visibility of the Institution as a knowledge producer
  • To address current barriers inherent in existing models of scholarly communication
  • To provide a more cost effective alternative to the conventional academic press.

Submission and peer review process

  • Initial manuscript submissions to the Unitec ePress office are referred to the Chair of the Editorial Committee who delegates the first screening to members of the committee that relate to the disciplinary area of the work.
  • Committee members identify the appropriate reviewers and oversee peer review process, communicate reviewers comments to editorial committee and oversee the production cycle of the assigned manuscript.
  • Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, Unitec ePress commences the production cycle.

Format

eBooks are available in a range of formats: Acrobat PDF, HTML for onscreen viewing and HTML for mobile devices. These formats, as well as Print-on-Demand (PoD) books, are generated from a single source file (XML).
