School of Engineering and Applied Technology

In the School of Engineering and Applied Technology we're passionate about making a difference and shaping the world we live in. Our engineering programmes in automotive, civil, electrical, electronic and land surveying are practical, hands-on, interactive and self-paced; as practical engineers, we’re doers not just thinkers. This is an ideal environment to get you familiar with your field before you even step a foot into the workplace, which means that you'll be more work ready and industry connected before you complete your programme.

School overview

With continuous infrastructure development, New Zealand alone needs thousands of new engineers and surveyors over the next 10 years. We take a hands-on approach to learning, to give our students the skills they’ll need in the field.

Our electrical and electronics engineering staff hold a wealth of experience and expertise. Our civil engineering academic staff are experts in all areas of civil engineering. Many of them are Chartered Professional Engineers, members of Engineering New Zealand, or members of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Licensed Cadastral Surveyors. A significant number of our lecturers work in the industry – bringing current best practice to the curriculum.

We have close working relationships with industry organisations, major engineering and surveying companies, and electrical and electronics engineering industries. These contacts ensure our programmes are not only up-to-date but anticipates emerging developments to reflect current best practices and the latest industry trends; legislation; and local, global and environmental issues.
