The Certificate in Foundation Studies (Level 2): Whitinga offers a pathway into selected certificate and diploma programmes at Unitec. You can enrol in the General pathway or specialise in construction and civil engineering, or sciences.
Please note: If you want to move into a bachelors-level programme, you need to complete the Certificate in Foundation Studies (Level 3): Whitinga.
This programme is not suitable for students with English as an additional language who need an intensive English language course.

- Unitec Study Award: once you've successfully completed this programme, you may be able to apply for a Unitec Study Award, which will contribute towards the cost of your fees for one semester of further study at Unitec.
To be awarded a Certificate in Foundation Studies (Level 2): Whitinga you need 60 credits, with 45 credits at level 2 or above, including a pass in an Academic Study Skills course at level 2 and a pass in a mathematics course (Mathematics 101 or above). The Academic Study Skills courses involve five hours of class contact time per week, except for Academic Study Skills 1012 and 1013, which are 10 hours per week in total. The mathematics courses involve 5 hours of class contact time per week.
You then also choose from a wide variety of elective courses to make up 20 hours of class contact time a week. You can choose to take fewer courses but then it will take you longer than one semester to complete the certificate.
