Short Courses (Writing)

The following credit-bearing Bachelor of Communication courses can also be taken as one-off courses. You will join current communication students in class and undertake assessment projects as applicable. Once you complete the course, you will receive a Certificate of Proficiency and at a future date, if your application to join the Bachelor of Communication is successful, you may be able to cross-credit the course to the programme.

This short course will develop your ability to think critically and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to help you deliver presentations, write proposals and reports that are suitable for a variety of workplace situations.

Introduction to Narrative

This practical hands-on short course will develop your ability to produce creative writing in book and article format, including novels, short stories, poetry, biography, and magazine articles. You will be encouraged to write creatively, through the study of selected examples and the development of a personal portfolio.

This is a unique opportunity to study creative writing with Montana Book Award finalist, 2007 Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellow, and current chair of Te Ha (the Literature Committee of Toi Māori Aotearoa), James George.
