Bachelor of Arts (EAL) for international students

Unitec’s Bachelor of Arts (EAL) is an academic programme with a strong record of academic success and retention. Many of our students have succeeded in postgraduate study around the world and/or have successfully found employment.

This programme is no longer offered for new enrolments. If you have applied for the programme you will be contacted about alternative study options or you can give us a call on 0800 10 95 10.

We recognize that different students have different needs so we have created a flexible programme that allows students to study at Unitec in either their 3rd or 4th year of BA study thereby making it easier for students to complete practicums and theses.

Over the last 5 years the programme has had a 100% retention rate and a 95% success rate.

Currently, the Bachelor of Arts in English as an Additional Language  (EAL) is only available to students who are attending Unitec partner institutions.

What our students say

BA (EAL) (Unitec), PGDip Translation Studies (Auckland
Currently enrolled on Master in Prof. Studs (Translation Studies) (Auckland)

Unitec is like a big family that makes you feel warm and welcomed. The whole learning process is more student-driven, diverse and practical; students are more proactive and often have their initiatives when choosing what they will learn and how they are going to learn. Unitec is a great place to enrich your experience; moreover, it tells you how to enjoy it. It presents a different academic environment, which is fun and enchanting, just like New Zealand.

Camellia Yang
BA (EAL) (Unitec), PGDip Int Comm (Unitec)
Working as Social Media Community Specialist Asia, Air New Zealand

Lectures and tutors are always encouraging students to express their own opinions. What is more, the courses I attended are very practical. For example, I enrolled in New Zealand Culture and Society course. It requires me to do 20 hours voluntary work after class. My voluntary experiences equipped me with a better understanding of New Zealand’s working environment which benefitted my future job hunting process as well. I really enjoyed my study life in Unitec for its multicultural and friendly atmosphere.

Chao Zhao (Sarah)
BA (EAL) (Unitec), Master of Business Studies (Massey)

Unitec gave me a big and warm hug when I first came to New Zealand and I definitely enjoyed my time at Unitec. The experienced teachers not only help you adapt to a whole new academic environment but also open a door for you to  have a look at New Zealand people and its culture. Studying at Unitec is different from China. Students are expected to be hignly self-disciplined, capable of cooperating with others and develop their critical thinking. The teachers at Unitec taught me many skills that are required for postgraduate study.
