The impact of technology on modern-day society is undeniable – it fundamentally changes the way we work and live. This School is dedicated to keeping pace with the constantly evolving and innovative world of computing, electrical and applied technologies.
Our programmes, people and facilities
At its core, technology is what allows us to find answers and fix problems. When we apply technology in practical situations through machines like computers or processes like repairing an electrical fault, we get better and quicker at doing ordinary things in unexpected ways.
No matter where you are in your career, our computing and information technology, electrical and electronics engineering and applied technology programmes provide employment-focused education. Instead of spending hours in a lecture theatre, you’ll learn practical skills in state-of-the-art labs using the latest software and hardware.
Our teaching teams are passionate and have years of hands-on experience. Most of them work and teach, so they know what is needed by employers. They’re members of relevant industry organisations and have published in international journals. Others are involved in applied research that will help shape the future of their industry.
We’re home to New Zealand’s first Cybersecurity Research Centre, in collaboration with Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) – it’s an example of cutting-edge technology being developed right here on-campus. Our electrical engineering labs include full automation equipment and robotics. And then there’s Mataaho, our trades training facility, with the latest emulation equipment to work on full vehicle systems.
