About the event
Join us at our Mount Albert campus for a free Trades and Construction Tour. You will see our workshops in action, talk with current ākonga (students) and Kaiako (lecturers), and get a clear picture of what it takes to get trade qualified and into work.
Note: this tour is for former Unitec Pathways College students and their whānau.
Why come along
- We build real houses. Yes, that’s correct we build houses from start to finish onsite at Unitec.
- Classroom, workshop, job site, and lab. You’ll see our hands on approach to learning in real-time.
- See the workshops in action. Tour Mataaho, one of the largest open-plan trades training centres in Aotearoa, while classes are running.
- Talk with current ākonga and kaiako.
- Explore your options. Talk with our trades team and with kaiako from the School of Building and Construction, so you can see the full range of paths in the industry.
- Find out what your next steps are. Entry requirements, fees, start dates and StudyLink, answered on the day by our team.

Study fulltime for 1-year, unlock apprentice opportunities to earn while you learn and become trade qualified.
If a hands-on trade is not the only thing on your mind, our School of Building and Construction kaiako will be there too. They can talk you through the wider study and career options in the industry, so you leave with a clear view of what suits you.

Bringing your teen along
This is a relaxed, supervised campus visit. It is a chance for your young person to see what trades and construction study at Unitec really involves and to get clear, honest answers about their options. You are welcome to come along too, and we would encourage it. Our kaimahi will guide the group throughout, and there is no pressure to enrol. The goal is simply to help your young person work out their next step.
