COUNCIL ROLES

You are able to run for more than one position, though you can only hold one role in the council. We encourage you to carefully consider which role you could best fulfil when you are to campaign.

STUDENT PRESIDENT -
This representative leads the Student Council, taking part in all Council activities and sits on Unitec’s committees and boards representing the interests of the student body.

VICE PRESIDENT - 
This representative co-leads the Student Council, supporting the Student President and leading the student council administration. This representative may also attend Unitec committees and boards representing the interests of the student body.

MĀORI REP -
This representative will speak on behalf of Māori students and will be a student member of Rūnanga and other relevant groups.

PACIFIC REP
This representative will speak on behalf of Pacific students and will be a student member of Fono and other relevant groups.

INTERNATIONAL REP
This representative will speak on behalf of International students, and will maintain a relationship with the International Office and other relevant groups.

WAITĀKERE REP
This representative will speak on behalf of students studying at the Waitākere campus and must be based at Waitākere.

GENERAL REP - 
This representative will take an active part in all Council activities and will sit on Unitec’s committees and boards representing the interests of the student body.

  • The Student President role is for one calendar year and is a 20 hour per week paid position. To stand for this position you must be an enrolled Unitec student and have held a position of leadership within the Unitec Student Community (e.g. sports team captain, Student Rep, member of a student club or executive).
  • The term for all of the council roles is held over an academic calendar year i.e. Semester 1 and Semester 2.
  • Student Council representatives can expect to work up to 10 hours per week throughout the academic semester.
  • Student Council training will be held in early February.
  • Council members are required to be available in the week before each Semester begins to assist with the welcoming of new students.
  • All positions are paid.

Nominations and Screening:

  • All nominees must be currently enrolled students at Unitec and a current Unitec student within the period elected for.
  • Students and Staff can use the nomination form using the online link below. If nominating someone else, you must have their permission.
  • All nominations will be screened to check the nominee’s suitability. Shortlisted nominees will be interviewed.

Successful nominees:

  • may run for more than one position but can only hold one position during their term and will need to indicate their preference.
  • Must receive endorsement from another current Unitec student
  • Must submit a blurb, with a limit of 200 words. It should state why they are running and what they want to achieve. The blurb will appear on the online voting form.

Campaigning

  • All successful nominees must attend the Candidate Briefing session (5:00pm, Wednesday 25 October via Zoom).
  • Physical campaigning on campus is encouraged.

Voting

  • When voting opens, all students will receive an email containing a voting code and link and you should encourage your peers to participate in the election process.

Please note by being a representative, you commit adhering to the Unitec Student Council Constitution (rules), to attending regular meetings (including preparation and pre-reading), attend training and support initiatives and events that benefit students.

HOW TO VOTE

All current students will be sent a voting link via email. If you have not received your link please check your spam or junk folder in your email. If you are still missing your link, or have questions, please contact the Elections Team. 

  • Voting Opens (Online Polling): Wednesday, 1 November at 10am
  • Voting Closes: Friday, 3 November at 4pm

Please note it is one voting link per student, so please do not share your link as it is connected to your student ID number.
