2023 Unitec graduate Fifita Vai ‘Utukakau Latu’s passion to help others

2023 Unitec-Te Pūkenga graduate Fifita Vai ‘Utukakau Latu was interviewed by the New Zealand Herald about how her work as a youth worker in Auckland’s high-security Wiri prison inspired her to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Practice (Social Practice).
After speaking on behalf of a young man in court as he had no family support, she was told she shouldn’t as she was not a registered social worker. This prompted her on her study journey to help those who find themselves on the toughest of life’s journeys.
