Strong turnout for Unitec Info and Enrolment Day

Unitec’s Information and Enrolment Day on 28-29 January 2026 saw a strong turnout of visitors with numbers exceeding the previous events from the past two years.

Staff at the Mt Albert and Waitākere campuses were busy on both days fielding enquiries and finalising enrolments with prospective learners and returning ākonga.

The purpose of the event was to actively engage prospective learners and encourage them to consider Unitec as their first-choice tertiary provider. Support was also extended to assist existing learners with re-enrolling in their programmes. Guidance and wrap-around support was also offered to those already enrolled.

“We saw a strong turnout on both days and a steady flow of visitors throughout, keeping our teams actively engaged,” says Events and Communications Business Partner, Romy Sunny.

There was a total of 216 registrations out of which around 120 turned up to Mt Albert and around sixty to the Waitākere campus. Many of them were accompanied by their parents or family members, who valued the in-person experience and meeting our kaimahi.

Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting student, Muhammad Delawar Hossein attended the Mt Albert event to finalise his courses for Semester One.

“I came today to get some advice from one of the programme coordinators regarding my enrolment and what papers I need to take,” Muhammad says.

“My situation is a little bit complicated as I am from Bangladesh where I did my undergraduate degree so that it was better to discuss this face-to-face.”

Muhammad is currently working part-time at New World in Pt Chevalier but hopes to find work as an accountant after completing his studies at Unitec.

School of Creative Industries lecturer, Rebecca Bernard, enjoyed meeting new students and helping those who needed more information before making a decision.

“It was fun. We’ve had a few really cool faces come through. People trying to figure out their journey, and how they’re going to integrate creative practice into their life. So it’s been great,” Rebecca says.

“Just getting to see familiar faces again and also building new relationships is an incredible thing to be doing. This event is important because it’s good for our returning and new learners to be feeling like they’re a step ahead. So when they arrive on the first day of semester for the pōwhiri, they’re welcomed on, and they feel prepared for that.”

Technology Centre Coordinator, Mun Naqvi says the School of Applied Business stand was quite busy on Wednesday morning.

“Most of the enquiries were in the post-graduate area,” he explains.

“Some of them are coming back to re-enrol. But overall they are a mix of general enquiries from new and existing students trying to sort out their courses before the start of the Semester.

Mr Naqvi says events such as Info and Enrolment Day are important because many students prefer face-to-face support. It also helps them make important decisions on where they choose to study.

“This event is run once every semester so we make sure representatives from our school are there so that we are able to respond to any kind of query especially of an urgent nature, whether it’s a re-enrolment or enrolling for the first time so it’s definitely useful.”

Mr Sunny thanked everyone who made Info and Enrolment Day a success: “A huge shout-out to our staff and volunteers for their tireless hard work, dedication, and continued support in helping our deserving learners successfully enrol for Semester One.”
