Art and Design

You can change the world by communicating your ideas, whether you prefer Graphic Design, Photography, Media Arts, Painting, User Experience Design, Sculpture, Installation, Animation, Illustration, Product & Packaging Design or Contemporary Craft practice. Our tutors will guide you to develop your own unique mode and method of expression.

Explore your options

Study Art and Design at Unitec and you’ll learn how to visually explore different forms of communication through our unique multi-disciplinary studio approach. The applied nature of the courses means you will be hands-on, first developing your own ideas and then building your technical skills. It’s a close-knit environment, with regular peer reviews and group critiques. Your tutors are specialists in fine art, animation, game design, media and design, and our guest lecturer programme introduces you to practitioners from across industry.

Exposure to creative problem solving will expand your learning beyond the classroom. We examine contemporary Māori and Pacific approaches, which, combined with other cultural influences, offer you a creative and diverse education.

Through practice-based training, students are equipped with the tools for commercial and creative success for their chosen fields. You’ll get to exhibit your work in the campus galleries, in public spaces and at the end of year graduate show. Our graduates have gone on to win awards, exhibit around the globe, and enjoy the dynamic and engaging experience of being involved in the Creative Industries.
