Kura Po - Te Reo Māori Evening Classes

Ideal for busy people, these FREE evening short courses provide an introduction to Te Reo Māori from beginner to advanced levels. Ahakoa ko wai, no hea koe, ko tēnei te wā! No matter who you are or where you're from, this is the time to immerse yourself in the richness of te Ao Māori world.

They include pronunciation, basic greetings, common phrases, waiata Māori (Māori songs) and the use of te reo in everyday situations, including the workplace. Give it a go. Kōrero mai!

Duration: Monday - Wednesday 10 weeks, attendance of one-night class a week

Times: 6.00 - 9.00pm

Venue: Mt Albert Campus: Puukenga, Building 171, Gate 3, Carrington Road, Mt Albert or Waitakere Campus: Building 500, Level 3, Ratanui Street, Henderson

Cost: FREE TUITION* or for International students, the course fee is $245.34 (this fee is subject to change without notice).

*Free tuition is available to domestic students only. To be eligible for free tuition you must provide a verified copy of your birth certificate, passport (NZ or overseas with residency documents) or citizenship certificate.

Te reo Māori – Tahi (beginner)

The course provides an introduction to the basic personal introduction, mihimihi, karakia, waiata to the basic language structures and vocabulary at a communicative level. It reinforces vowels, consonants, diphthongs, blends, correct pronunciation of Māori words and much more.

Te reo Māori – Rua (intermediate)

This course offers an extension to Reo Tahi or for learners with a basic understanding of language knowledge with Punctuation, syntax, past tense, present tense, future tense sentences, pepeha, whakapapa and much more.

Te reo Māori – Toru (advanced)

This course is a further extension of your language knowledge and cultural awareness. This includes being supported to be able to convers comfortably, with a focus on sentences and oral conversations in class and much more.

Te reo Māori – Whā (full immersion)

At this advanced level, you will contribute to classroom discussions, sing appropriate mōteatea and recite karakia for different settings. (Course runs subject to numbers).
