This\u00a0exhibition\u00a0is a celebration of the traditional\u00a0practice\u00a0and pedagogy\u00a0of whatu k\u0101kahu. Cloaks that wh\u0101nau\u00a0M\u0101ori\u00a0have made for their mokopuna, tamariki and wh\u0101nau will be on display. Alongside these\u00a0storied cloaks are\u00a0a photo of the kaiwhatu(weaver) and a letter they have written to their mokopuna.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The series of\u00a0monthly\u00a0w\u0101nanga\u00a0held\u00a0over\u00a0a\u00a02 year\u00a0externally funded research project\u00a0built a whatu community of practice across three r\u016bmaki reo (total immersion te reo M\u0101ori units) in 3 central Auckland schools. Video footage,\u00a0images, and interview data snippets gathered and consented through the research project\u00a0accompany the display of k\u0101kahu as a visual record of reflections from the wh\u0101nau re-telling their experience of learning and activating this creative form of intergenerational transmission of language and toi M\u0101ori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will be space for interactive feedback for visitors to the gallery and weekend time for kaiwhatu (weavers) to come together and whatu.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
