class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6451\">Volume 2<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Following on from the success of the first volume of <em>Perspectives in Biodiversity<\/em> in 2023, this year saw an increase in paper submissions, with seven papers published in 2024. Volume 2 has four Research Papers and three Short Communications covering a diverse array of topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This volume includes Research Papers examining the use of spatial methods to assist with the analysis of monitoring data for p\u012bwakawaka \/ North Island fantail (<em>Rhipidura fuliginosa placabilis<\/em>) on Tiritiri Matangi Island (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/gpsfantail-tiritiri\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6464\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aguilar et al. 2024<\/a>); and a documentation of the occurrence of <em>Taraxacum pseudohamatum <\/em>on the Chatham Islands (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/taraxacum-rekohu\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6716\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meijer et al. 2024<\/a>). Two new species are also described: <em>Lomandra macfarlanei<\/em>, a flowering plant from northern Australia (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/lomandra-macfarlanei\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6739\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wang 2024<\/a>); and the lichen <em>Dictyomeridium neureuterae <\/em>from \u014ctata in The Noises islands, T\u012bkapa Moana \/ Hauraki Gulf (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/dictyomeridium-neureuterae\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marshall et al. 2024<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Short Communications include a paper providing a combination for two species of <em>Caloplaca <\/em>lichen merged into one species as <em>Sirenophila <\/em>as <em>S. macquariensis<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/sirenophila-macquariensis\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6679\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">S\u00f8chting &amp; de Lange 2024<\/a>); a paper examining the arboreal behaviour of Kapitia skink (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/kapitiaskink-climb\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oligosoma salmo<\/a><\/em>) in captivity (Kerrigan et al. 2024); and another addressing the production of siderophores in fungi sampled from asbestos biofilms (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/asbestos-siderophore\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6469\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blanchon et al. 2024<\/a>). It is pleasing to see the publication of student papers such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitec.ac.nz\/epress\/index.php\/perspectives-in-biodiversity\/volumes\/2024-1\/kapitiaskink-climb\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"6448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kerrigan et al.<\/a>\u2019s from the School of Environmental and Animal Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As always, we gratefully thank the authors for their contributions to this volume. This year they included not only Aotearoa \/ New Zealand researchers, but also scientists from Australia, the Netherlands and Denmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manuscripts were expertly handled by Associate Professors Emanuele Farris and Mark Large, Dr Luis Ortiz Catedral and Lilith Fisher, and by ePress staff who included Marie Shannon (until September 2024) and Gwynneth Porter, who started with the team in October 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Perspectives in Biodiversity<\/em> Editorial Board includes experts from around the globe, and we appreciate their willingness to take on manuscript assignments \u2013 their time and dedication helps this journal to run smoothly.
