Aim: 
Enable a student to engage industry and community relevant to discipline and then begin to create feasible and well-defined research questions as well as determine the most appropriate research method or range of methods to address these research questions.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Master Health Science or PGDip Health Science or PGCert Health Science or Master Applied Practice or PGDip Applied Practice or PGCert Applied Practice to enrol in this course. Pre-req for MAP, PGDAP & PGCAP: CISC8001.
Topics include: 

May include but are not limited to
1. Research project rationale.
2. Paradigms and methodologies, including cultural models
Kaupapa Maori and Indigenous peoples' research methodologies.
3. Completing and presenting research project rationale including the formulation of research question aims and objectives on a negotiated topic.
4. Appropriate research methodology and methods to specific research question; developing the research aims as well as questions or hypotheses.
5. The research process and methodology; developing critical thinking and the organisational skills required for research.
6. Identifying the needs of community.
7. Collaboration in research.
8. Contextualising research in cultural, professional, social, academic and practice settings.
9. The outcomes of research.
