Aim: 
To enable the student to apply specific husbandry requirements for animals in clinical care and recognise the role of a veterinary assistant as part of a veterinary team.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
 
Topics include: 

- Husbandry in clinical settings, including but not limited to
specific husbandry requirements for a range of animal species and disease conditions, safe animal handling and restraint.
- Role and function of veterinary nurse assistant, including but not limited to
codes of conduct, relevant legislation, safe working practices and regulations, grief management.
monitoring and nursing requirements, basic wound care, nutrition (including prescription diets), recording and reporting, administration of treatments, assisting with diagnostic procedures
- Skills of a veterinary nurse assistant, including but not limited to
efficient and effective care of patients (including hospitalised patients), patient records and client relations, surgical procedures, preparation for surgery,
(including assisting with radiography, running in-house lab tests, and packaging samples), learning to improve performance through self-reflection.
