Application deadlines
There are two rounds of funding for PMSA each year. Please ensure to submit you application on time, no applications will be accepted after the deadlines.
March Round: Applications must be submitted by 30 March
August Round: Applications must be submitted by 30 August
About the scholarship
Duration: Programmes must be a minimum of 4 weeks and not exceed 24 months. Maximum funded weeks over 24 months is 72.
Individuals: The scholarship is awarded to individuals and currently covers the following costs relating to study, internship or research in Asia. The scholarship includes tuition fees of Asian institutions, internship brokerage fees and return flights, a contribution to visa and vaccine fees, plus a contribution to living, accommodation, visa, insurance etc costs of $270 per week on study programme. Applicants must undertake appropriate programmes in: China (greater China including Hong Kong and Taiwan), India, Viet Nam, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, plus Japan, Malaysia or Singapore. The destination institution should have a formal relationship with a New Zealand institution.
Groups: New Zealand Tertiary providers/institutions may apply to the PMSA to fund a group (3+) to travel together to Asia on a specified programme that meets PMSA goals. Group programmes are applied for separately under the PMSA, and have their own application and reporting requirements. Funding for individuals on group programmes is as above.
Anyone over the age of 18 can apply for the scholarship, provided they are a New Zealand citizen or hold a New Zealand Permanent Resident Visa.
