Community Studies Positive Impact Scholarships

The Community Studies Positive Impact Scholarship was established in 2019 to acknowledge current students making positive contributions within our communities through volunteer work or student placements and those committed to improving student experiences within the school of Community Studies.

The Community Studies Positive Impact Scholarship was established in 2019 to acknowledge current students making positive contributions within our communities through volunteer work or student placements and those committed to improving student experiences within the school of Community Studies.

Up to three (3) scholarships will be granted for study in Semester 2 2019 in the below categories:

  • 1-2 x Community Impact:  awarded to a Community Studies student who is making a positive influence within our communities through volunteer work or student placements
  • 1-2 x Unitec Contributor/Champion Scholarship:  awarded to a Community Studies student who is committed to improving student experiences within the school of Community Studies. This could be from serving as a student representative, organising and delivering on campus events,  and/or being a positive role-model

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • New Zealand citizen or holder of a New Zealand Permanent Resident visa.
  • Be currently enrolled in a School of Community Studies programme (level 5-7) at the time of application and during Semester 2 2019
  • Have completed at least one semester’s study in their current programme of study programme (level 5-7) at the time of application
  • Achieved a grade point average of B- or above for previous and/or current semester’s study completed at Unitec

Recipient Selection Criteria

  • Motivation to succeed in their chosen course, as demonstrated in the Scholarship application.
  • Commitment to benefiting their local and Unitec communities, as demonstrated in the scholarship application.
  • Academic Merit: Previous semester GPA may be considered.
  • Attendance: Academic Leaders will provide student attendance rates for current semester of study.
  • Engagement & contribution to classes, as demonstrated in letter of recommendation from lecturer or tutor.
  • Priority may also be given to:
    • Pacific
    • Maori
    • Students under the age 25
    • First in Family to pursue Higher Educational
    • Single Parents

Application Details

Before starting an application, you should have the following ready as you cannot save or edit you application once you have started it:

1. Short Answers (100-150 words per each question) to the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in your programme of study and what motivates you to succeed in your studies?
  • Give an example of ways you have been involved with your local community. How did you benefit from this experience?
  • What ways do you plan to get involved in your local and Unitec Community?
  • How will this Scholarship help support you in your studies?

2. Academic Reference Letter (completed by you academic lecturer or tutor) and emailed to: scholarships@unitec.ac.nz

Applications open Wednesday 10th of July and close on Monday 12th of August
