Today marks a significant milestone as the official start date of the new national institute for vocational education and training – with the working name of New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST). While the current situation with COVID-19 is uppermost in everyone’s minds, it’s also important to recognise this historic change for New Zealand’s ITP sector.
As Barry Jordan, Chair of the Establishment Board said yesterday, for the first time in New Zealand’s history, today each of the 16 existing Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics have moved from a competitive to a collaborative environment.
Under the new NZIST structure, Unitec is now a subsidiary company of NZIST with a new legal name to reflect this change, Unitec New Zealand Limited (Unitec NZ). There is no change to our trading name for the time being and we will continue to be known as Unitec Institute of Technology until further notice. Our logo, brand, email signatures and other marketing materials will not change at this stage. For day-to-day operations, it’s business as usual.
