Short Courses (Carpentry) Portfolio Development
Portfolio Development for carpenters - Practical Units
If you’ve been working as a carpenter in the New Zealand Building industry for the past seven years but have never completed any formal carpentry training, the Portfolio Development for Carpenters course will help you step up to the next level towards completing a qualification.
It is designed for non-qualified carpenters to help you put together a portfolio of evidence of achievement (of carpentry experience) to enable you to gain the National Certificate in Carpentry Practical Unit Standards.
We'll help you complete your portfolio
At the start of the course, you will attend an orientation session where the portfolio development and assessment process will be explained. Under the guidance of our teaching staff, you will be asked to prepare a timeline for your portfolio so that at the end of the programme, you will have completed a portfolio of evidence of your achievement. Once you have successfully completed your portfolio you can apply for the practical Unit Standards within the National Certificate in Carpentry programme.
We also offer you the opportunity to attend five evening coaching classes on the dates shown below, which will give you the opportunity to discuss progress of your developing portfolio with our experienced tutors and your fellow students.
Once completed, you will be required to submit a Portfolio of Evidence, which will be assessed against the required unit standards to enable you to gain the National Certificate Practical Unit Standards. The Theory Unit Standards of the National Certificate can be completed by enrolling in the two year part time National Certificate in Carpentry programme.
A transcript of completed units will be forwarded to students as and when they are completed and once all unit standards are achieved, the Department of Building Technology will register results with NZQA (at the request and cost to you, the student).
Fees: $1000.00 (including GST).
Location: Department of Building Technology, Building 87, Room 1001, Entry 4, Carrington Road, Mt. Albert Campus.
