Programme summary

Advance your understanding of social practice situations, and become knowledgeable about the relationships between contemporary perspectives on social practice in New Zealand, theories of power and culture, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Improve your ability to deal with various social practice situations. The Postgraduate Certificate in Social Practice helps you further your decision-making skills and knowledge about social practice situations. Develop the competence to identify and work with the multiple facets of a social practice situation, and to work confidently with individuals, families and communities in the cultural contexts of New Zealand.

Highlights

  • Ongoing professional development: designed to help advanced social practitioners make informed, ethical and integrated responses to complex situations.
  • Transdisciplinary: suitable for experienced professionals from various disciplines, including social work, counselling, community development, nursing or teaching.
  • Highly experienced lecturers who often still have active roles in community and national organisations. Some have international practice experience.
  • Flexibility: choose two courses that fit the needs of your career.
  • Block courses: because most of our students are working professionals, most courses will be delivered over four two-day blocks (on Fridays and Saturdays).
