
Registered Nurse Return to Nursing
This course is designed to meet the needs of Registered Nurses returning to practice. The course will be underpinned by the frameworks consistent with the Treaty of Waitangi and a partnership model of nursing. It will provide participants with the skills and knowledge, to nurse within the contemporary health context. It will also provide an opportunity to meet any current legislative requirement for current nursing practice. This is a flexible course, designed to meet individual needs, through the prescription of individual programmes for each student.
Objectives:

To provide a course for nurses returning to nursing practice.

To provide participants with an understanding of contemporary nursing in New Zealand.

To assess the competencies of returning nurses and their ability to practice within current healthcare settings.
This course includes:
- A theoretical component
- Clinical practice in an acute care setting and in long term care
- Theory interspersed throughout the clinical experiences.
The course duration is 8 weeks and may be extended to a maximum of 12 weeks (based on individual needs). An initial needs assessment will determine which course a student enrolls (NURS S201 or NURS S202) and the fees accordingly.

NURS S201: Permanent residents $4,534.00 (incl GST), International students $5,564.00 (incl GST)
NURS S202: Permanent residents $4,316.00 (incl GST), International students $5,356.00 (incl GST)

Times:
Theory weeks approximately 9.00am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Clinical practice weeks, Monday to Thursday.
Shift times: Morning (7.00am – 3.00pm), (8.30am – 4.30pm) and Afternoon (2.30pm – 10.30pm).
Location:
The theoretical component of the course is held at the Waitakere campus and/or Mt Albert Campus. Students attend a five-week acute care experience off-site in a negotiated health care setting. Placements outside the Auckland area may be available for this experience.
