Medical Imaging

Modern healthcare without medical imaging? Unthinkable. Medical imaging is a vital diagnostic tool: x-rays, mammograms, ultrasound or computed tomography images all help diagnose patients’ injuries and diseases. Applying the appropriate medical imaging procedure for each patient requires skill. Which is why diagnostic medical radiation technologists (MRTs) are highly sought after. And not just in New Zealand.

Graduates who hit the ground running are the best way to meet this demand. That’s why Bachelor of Health Science students spend at least two days a week in clinical practice in a radiology facility.

Once you’re a qualified MRT you can then take your career that step further. Specialise in ultrasound perhaps? Or clinical management? Or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)? Or mammography? Our postgraduate programmes are unique in New Zealand. Designed to meet national professional demand. And flexible enough to combine study with your work.

Hands-on learning and flexibility are two of the reasons that make us a leading medical imaging education provider. Strong links with the industry, and experienced and highly qualified staff are two more. They’re all reasons why Department of Medical Imaging programmes are prescribed qualifications by the Medical Radiation Technologists Board and recognised internationally.
