You may also complete CELTA as part of the Certificate in Language Teaching, starting February or July.
Do you want a career teaching English? The Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is an internationally recognised and sought-after qualification. As a Cambridge qualification offered at Unitec, the programme is approved and supervised by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
CELTA is also available as part of the Certificate in Language Teaching.
Highlights
- A practical introduction to English language teaching.
- Intensive four-week programme, from 19 November to 14 December 2012, Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm. You also need to make time for class observations, lesson preparation and assignment work.
- Emphasis on teaching skills and a basic understanding of the processes and techniques used in English language teaching.
- Previous teaching experience is not required.
- Practical focus: you’ll practise teaching in a class of adults for a total of six hours and will observe experienced teachers teaching classes for a total of six hours.
- A Cambridge ESOL assessor moderates all assessment processes.
There are no exams. You’re assessed on your practical teaching skills, your responses to written assignments and your teaching portfolio. You must pass all assessment components. 100 percent attendance is required, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Once you’ve successfully completed this programme, you receive a certificate from Cambridge ESOL and a progress report.
