Programme summary

After another chance at formal education and want a career in science? Develop your tertiary study skills and improve your knowledge of mathematics, biology, chemistry or physics. Learn in a supportive adult learning environment.

Mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry are important for many professions, but science doesn’t have to be daunting. This pathway gives you the knowledge and skills you need for further study in programmes with a science component – such as animal health and welfare, and osteopathy.

Highlights

  • Great preparation for further study in science-related subjects: you’ll improve your knowledge of mathematics, chemistry or physics, further your reading and writing skills, and find out how to prepare for exams, write reports and make presentations.
  • Small classes.
  • One-on-one support from our supportive lecturers.
  • A mix of laboratory sessions, class presentations, lectures and tutorials.
  • Unitec Study Award: once you've successfully completed this programme, you may be able to apply for a Unitec Study Award, which will contribute towards the cost of your fees for one semester of further study at Unitec.

To complete this pathway, you’ll need at least 60 credits, of which 45 must be at level 2 or above. You need to include Academic Study Skills 2 or 3 and a mathematics course, as well as a selection of other science-related courses to make up a total of 60 credits. The course selection varies depending upon what further study you want to do. To ensure you select the most appropriate courses for your further study, please talk to us about your course selection before enrolling in the programme.

Please note that for some programmes, there are more applicants than places available. We therefore cannot guarantee entry into these programmes.
