Every year the YWCA Auckland offers a Tertiary Education Scholarship to assist a young woman (aged 16 to 30) to understand the role of governance in a non-profit organisation and to provide the Board with another young woman’s perspective on the activities of the YWCA.
The scholarship grants $3,000 for tertiary study to provide assistance with course-related costs e.g. textbooks, fees, laptop computer, course related software. It is paid in two instalments over the year.
The young woman selected for the scholarship will be required to take part in YWCA activities by becoming an ex-officio member of the Board. This will involve attending the monthly evening meeting of the Board, 11 meetings in total including the Annual General Meeting, and taking a full role in discussing policies and procedures for the organisation. Mentoring in this role will be provided from an existing Board member along with ongoing support.
Applicants must:
- Be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident
- Be studying at an Auckland tertiary institution and be completing the first year of study or higher
- Ber able to attend all monthly Board meetings and support the work of the YWCA
- Possess a wide variety of skills and experience, demonstrating an interest in the community and in the activities of women
- Be a good role model and representative to the views of women
- Demonstrate a strong likelihood to succeed in their studies
A selection panel of YWCA Auckland will interview up to four finalists slected from the pool of applicants. The successful applicant will be notified by telephone and letter.
