Aim: 
This course introduces students to various forms of inequality within Aotearoa and internationally. Students will identify some ways in which social practitioners can work for change. The place of social justice principles within the ethics and values of professional social practice will be identified.

Topics include: 

Key forms of inequality in Aotearoa and internationally
The historical, political, social and economic forces which shape inequalities
The place of colonisation and Te Tiriti o Waitangi within the development of inequalities in Aotearoa
Strategies for creating change as social practitioners
The relationship between social justice principles and the ethics of professional social practice
