Practice Pathway overview

Unitec’s programmes in Construction, Building Technology and Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying ensure our students are well-equipped to move straight into the workforce.

With our Building Technology programmes students who study building will learn the plumbing, plastering, painting and joinery skills to kick-start their career. Those who study carpentry will get the chance to help build new houses on campus which are then sold to the public.

In Construction programmes, we give students the skills and knowledge to run building projects of all sizes. The Bachelor of Construction was the first programme of its type in New Zealand and is accredited internationally.

With our Plumbing and Gasfitting programmes, our staff supervise students as they work in the hydraulics lab, gas lab, welding and sheet metal workshops. They also have the opportunity to work on the relocatable houses which Unitec carpentry students build on campus.

We work closely with the big players in the industry which allows us to offer a range of programmes that provide a strong pathway into employment after study. Many of our students work while they study too, which enhances their study and solidifies industry relationships.
