Aim: 
To develop an understanding of the structure and functioning of plants, focusing on landscape use and environmental interactions.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Diploma in Landscape Design programme to enrol in this course. Restriction: LPSC5332.
Topics include: 

Arrangement of Plant Kingdom, plant classification systems, botanical nomenclature; Structure, functions and growth processes of stems, roots, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds and their interactions within the plant and with the environment; Adaptations of plants to their environment (plant modifications); The role of plant hormones in controlling growth; Plant growth responses to plant management techniques in a landscape situation; Microscope observation and drawing of plant structures; Plant identification.
