Aim: 
To introduce and develop effective skills for the investigations and learning required for studies in technology.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Applied Technology programme to enrol in this course. Restriction: APPT5110.
Topics include: 

Appropriate selection from following topics
Academic skills
learning resources - electronic and printed; learning support systems; effective note-taking; academic essays and reports, referencing systems; effective revision and preparation, avoiding plagiarism.
Communication skills
Technical and business communication, standards and codes including referencing systems, physical and web based resources.
Interpersonal communication. Computer application tools such as word-processing, spread sheeting, presentation graphics
Technical visual literacy
Graphical presentation of data. In the context of a particular discipline - interpretation of technical drawings and plans, understanding of related projections, notations and conventions.
Technical numeracy
In the context of a particular discipline, develop or confirm abilities to
interpret problems in number form, find and use basic formulas,
calculate results and check for sense; use correct units, relate to graphical forms where appropriate.
Health and Safety
In the context of particular technology occupations and activities, introduction to
workplace hazards, hazards, risks and outcomes, safety learning and culture, safety requirements
