Meet Unitec staff member Shaun Gear (Marketing and Communications) and Unitec student Marco Fernandez (Diploma in Accounting) who will compete in this year’s adidas Auckland Marathon on 28th October.

Unitec is proud to sponsor the adidas Auckland Marathon and will be supporting these two Unitec members along their eight week journey.

Shaun Gear - in his own words

Running is one discipline of three that I am passionate about, cycling and swimming being the other two. I am participating in the Auckland Marathon because this is a stepping stone in my training for Challenge Wanaka Ironman in January. I love running, and being a Unitec Marathon runner provides that extra motivation to get out there, get more people interested in running or supporting runners like me!

My inspiration are people who overcome adversity like those who would have never thought they could run a marathon and then finish soemthing like an Ironman.  It's awesome sharing that moment with them.

And most importantly, I am a secret world famous Dubstep DJ... in my own world!

Marco Fernandez - in his own words

I am from Colombia and have been in New Zealand for four years now. I love to run but really I'm not much different from those who don't! I love coffee, movies, dancing salsa...well but most importantly I love sport.

I enjoy running and my goal this year is the adidas Auckland Marathon. I have been building my running - mostly just running from home to Unitec and back (trying hard to be in time for classes!). Come motivate me and join me at the marathon if you can. Leave that couch, I know you can!
