Inbound Study Abroad and Exchange
Spend a semester or a year studying at Unitec in Auckland on our Study Abroad and Exchange programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends and experience living and studying in another culture. You will be able to credit study to your home degree while exploring the beaches, mountains and forests of New Zealand.

Inbound Exchange Students
If your home University is a partner institution to Unitec, you may apply as an Inbound Exchange student. Your application must be approved by, and submitted through, your University’s International Office.
Entry Requirements
At Unitec we aim to put students in classes at a level that relates to your previous study experience and skills.
Academic
As a Study Abroad student you must meet equivalent requirements in your home country for entry to degree programmes.
English Language
If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate your proficiency in the English language. Acceptable academic measures include an overall band score of 6.0 in academic IELTS with no band score less than 5.5, or 550 (213) in TOEFL with a TWE score of no less than 5.0, or 79 for Internet Based TOEFL. If English is the medium of instruction at your home university, this may be accepted as evidence of adequate English language proficiency. If you are coming via a partner institution please refer to your International Office.
Academic Year
There are two intakes per year for Study Abroad students:
Semester One 2012– early March to early July
Semester Two 2012 - early August to end of November
Closing Dates for Applications
Apply early! There is no closing date for applications to Unitec, but applying up to three months before your programme starts gives you time to organise travel and accommodation. Applying early also gives you a better chance of getting your first programme choices.
Course Results
On the completion of your programme, you will receive a Notification of Course Results. If required, you can also obtain an official Academic Record (Transcript). You need to apply for this before you leave Unitec. It costs NZ$20 for two copies. You should complete the application form and give this to the cashier in Building 48. Credit for studies successfully completed at Unitec may be transferred towards your programme of study at your home institution. Please contact your home institution regarding their policy on cross crediting.
Fees & Payments
The Study Abroad tuition fees for 2012 per semester are as follows:
- NZ$9,800 Standard fee
- NZ$7,800 Partner institutions
This all-inclusive fee applies whether you choose to take three Study Abroad courses or four. On the Study Abroad programme you pay your tuition fees directly to Unitec. Inbound Exchange students pay tuition fees directly to their home institution.
