From design to contemporary arts, Unitec will be celebrating and showcasing the creative work and achievements of our students at the School of Creative Industries.

Opening Night

You are warmly invited to join us for the Grand Opening of 2019 Gradfest. 

Thursday 21 November 
Doors open: 5.00pm
Official opening: 6:00pm
Building One, Entry 1, Carrington Road, Mt Albert campus, Auckland

Celebrate our students’ successes and view work from the newest and most innovative creators in Design and Contemporary Arts, and Costume Design & Management in an evening showcase dedicated to excellence and innovation.

Prior to the Grand Opening we will be applauding the successes of our high-achieving students at pathway prize-giving ceremonies which will kick off throughout Building 1 and nearby spaces at 5.30pm. 

The Gradfest exhibition will continue to be open for public viewing from 9:30am – 4pm Fri 22 – Sat 23 November.

All Gradfest events will be held in Building 1, Mt Albert campus. (Please use Entry 1, Carrington Rd, Mt Albert campus) Specific locations for exhibitions or performances are provided below.

Architecture and Interior Design

Join us for an exhibition of the year’s work produced by our talented certificate, diploma, bachelor and master-level students.   

At the celebration, we will also proudly launch the annual Asylum publication alongside an exhibition of the best work from our architecture and interior courses.

Design and Contemporary Arts

Enjoy a visual feast of work from certificate, diploma and bachelor level students specialising in graphic design, spatial design, photography and media arts, product and furniture design and contemporary arts. In addition, first and second-year students from our new Bachelor of Creative Enterprise degree will showcase innovative work integrating creative industry practice with entrepreneurial skill.

Landscape Architecture/Landscape and Garden Design

Join us for an exhibition of the year’s work produced by our talented certificate, diploma, bachelor and master-level students.  

Copies of the newest edition of our annual XSection journal will be available on the night.

Performing and Screen Arts

Showcase, 9-23 November
Performing and Screen Arts students present their end of year performances, screenings and exhibition work. Full details are below, and we look forward to your company across the month.

9-17 November FIN? - Acting Graduation Show
7.00pm Unitec Theatre, Building 6, Entry 1, Carrington Rd
A collection of five short plays devised and performed by Unitec’s graduating 2018 Year 3 Acting students.

15-18 November - Dance Showcase 2018
7.30pm Raye Freedman Arts Centre, cnr Silver Rd/Gillies Ave, Epsom
Unitec Dance and Beijing Dance Academy students perform new work by guest choreographers; Jessie McCall, Tamsyn Russell, Sarah Foster-Sproull, Bianca Hyslop, Eddie Elliott, Michael Parmenter and Joshua Cesan, in their end of year showcase.

19 November - NZ Certificate Showcase

Short performances by students from the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) - Screen Arts, Acting and Technical Production.

21 November - Music Showcase 
7:00pm Unitec Dance Studios, Building 7, Entry 1, Carrington Rd
Original music performed by Unitec music students.

22 November - Grad Screening 
6:30pm St Lukes Event Cinema
Screening of short films by graduating Screen Arts students.

23 November - Production Design and Management Exhibition Showcase: Revolutionary Designs
Opening: 6pm – 9pm Unitec Theatre, Building 6, Entry 1, Carrington Rd
Exhibition of work by Costume, Art and Technical students in the Production Design and Management programme inspired by the French Revolution. Exhibition runs on 24 & 25 November from 10:00am-3:00pm.
