Programme summary
Develop a fine art practice, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, video, animation, projection and performance. Work in your own studio space and exhibit your artwork in our student-managed gallery or off campus.
The Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts (Visual Arts) is a studio-based degree that gives you the opportunity to explore and develop a fine art practice. You’ll be introduced to a range of visual art mediums and processes, such as drawing, painting and printmaking. This programme has a strong studio focus, where you’ll learn through practice-based activity.

- Our visual arts graduates have won awards or been recognised by Creative New Zealand, Wallace Arts Award, Artist Alliance Awards, Waiheke Art Awards, Pumphouse Art Awards and the Mazda Art Award. Many students have had their work selected for exhibition in various exhibitions at private and public galleries in New Zealand.
