Aim: 
To assist students of English as an Additional Language to engage with the content of an academic/professional/vocational field and to develop an ability to comprehend oral and written texts, and to use the language characteristics of the field.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
 
Topics include: 

- Major text types from printed and electronic sources used in the field
- Analysis of content, organisation and language features of discipline-specific texts types, printed or electronic
- Explicit and implicit meaning in written texts, critical reading skills
- Oral presentation skills, enhanced by the use of video technology 'Blackboard Collaborate'
- Essay or report writing (depending on the discipline) using online tools, such as 'Turnitin', 'Google Docs'
- Information technology and research skills
- Taking notes of lectures and course materials using appropriate note-taking apps
- Summarising and synthesising skills
- Developing a written academic text, including peer feedback and collaboration tools
- Vocabulary learning strategies enhanced by the use of electronic tools
