Aim: 
To enable students to understand the basic physical principles of the Built Environment and their relation to buildings materials performance and selection.
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Construction programme to enrol in this course. Restriction: CONS5003.
Topics include: 

Scientific fundamentals
Heat, heat flow, thermal performance, moisture, light, luminance, illuminance, colour, luminaries, Sound, noise and acoustic performance, Electricity and energy, Ventilation and contaminants
Materials
Properties, Performance, Corrosion, Selection criteria (eg, environmental impact, strength, durability, cost, availability)
