Aim: 
To assist students to extend their knowledge and skills in professional communication and respond to ethical dilemmas in an early childhood setting
Pre-requisites / Co-requisites: 
Students must be admitted to the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) programme to enrol in this course. Pre-requisites: (EDUC5911,5912,5913,5914, 5915, 5905 & (5916 or (EDUC5919 & 5519)).

Expectations of professionalism; Examining the code of ethics for teachers; Defining ethical dilemmas; Responding to ethical dilemmas; Working in teams; Belonging and participating in a community of Practice; Social Styles analysis
personal and professional implications; Communication
Verbal and non verbal/ Attentive listening/ Giving & Receiving Feedback; Responding to and managing conflict in teams; Developing policy 1
Policy requirements and procedures in ECE; Developing policy 2
Policy consultation and review in ECE; Policy Consultation & review
consulting with Maori and whanau; Child protection
Identifying different types of child abuse/ Responding to suspected abuse; Unpacking emotions & reflections on being a professional teacher; Tikanga within Te Whariki
Enhancing teacher professionalism.
